Newtown Croquet Club. .. The funds of the Wellington Free Anibulanco benefited considerably by tho recent sports gathering held by the NewtoWn Croquet Club. Therb was a good -attendance of members friends. Tho club captain, Mrs. Press, and her committee arranged a series of. competitions for ■ trophies, donated by members. The prizes wcro won. as follows:—Peg, Miss McKenzio (Mount Victoria Club); golf, ..Mrs. Chittey (Mount Victoria); angles, Mrs. Burrell (Pahiatua); ladder, Mrs. "0. Smith (Mount Victoria), runner-up Mrs. Press; numbers, Miss Petersen; hurry scurry, Mrs. Eabiaii and Mrs. Vbe; two and fro (for non players), Mrs. Macara, consolation prize, Mrs. Taylor. In presenting the prizes, the president, Miss Petersen, thanked the donors and all others whose efforts had contributed to tho success of the gathering. Miss MeKonzie (Mount Victoria) returned thanks on behalf of the • visitors. Mrs. H. Mailman and Mrs. Page were responsible for afternoon tea. Married in England. A Shop Day. ' In. spite of the bad weather 175 members and friends who. had not heard of tho postponement of the Y.W.C.A. garden paity paid a visit to"Homewood" on Saturday afternoon. They were roceived by ths president and general secretary, and took great pleasure in strolling around the grounds, and enjoying the beauties of the conservatory and aviaries. By the courtesy of Mr. Harcourt and tho manager of the T. and G. Mutual Life Office a "shop day" will be held in the T. and G. Building (in a shop opposite the Kelburn tram stop) tomorrow, when sweets and cakes as well as plain and fancy handwork will be on sale. The garden party will bo held during March on a datfe to be advised later. The begonia house is looking particularly beautiful at present, and as it is felt many people will be disappointed at not seeing tho wonderful blooms, Mr. Sutherland has kindly offered to place his grounds at tho disposal of tlie Y.W.C.A. during the coming week. aardon Party at "Ngaroma." A particularly delightful garden party has been planned by the combined Lyail Bay, Kilbirnio, Island Bay, and Kewtown branches of the Plunket Society, and will "bo held in the beautiful grounds of "Ngaroma", the residence of Mr. and Mrs. Hope Gibbons, Queen's Drive, Lyall Bay, on Saturday, March 4. Every effort will be made to make the fete a success, and a most attractive programme has been arranged.
