The House of Commons read* second time Mrs. Irene Ward's private measure, the Home and Empira Settlement BUI, which empowers the Secretary of State for the Dominions to cooperate in schemes for land settlement in' Britain and the Dominions and allows for the training o£ the home agriculturists in preparation for tb» time when overseas settlement may bo resumed. This, Mr. J. .H. Thomas pointed out, is not likely for a considerable period, but if and when the Dominions again become prosperous they will be able, to absorb British: migrants in the same proportion as hitherto, ' ' ■ ' Mr. E. T. Campbell said that he knew: from experience that China and Japan: were itching to send migrants to Australia, and he was apprehensive that; Australia would not seek more Britisk immigrants. Sir H.
