Australia, entered upon its third daj; at the Sydney Cricket Ground today. The position for the resumption was that England, in reply to Australia, Ja score of 435, had made 159 for the loss of two wickets, Hammond being not out -with 72 and Larwooi -with. 5. The weather was hot and there waa a big crowd present when Hammond and Larwood resumed batting for England. Larwood ran to double figures before Hammond made any addition to Ma overnight score. With the total at 166 for two wickets, Hammond was 72 and Larwood 12. ' A steady advance waa made, and after half an hour's play today tho total had reached 185 for two wickets. Subsequently the score was taken beyond the 200 mark without further loss. In less than an hour the score had beea taken, from 159 to 218 for.two wieketa.
