A 7 procession nearly two miles long, marking the opening afr Wariganui tonight of, a tenv days-carnival, was headed by the "Princess of- Prosperity." The procession travelled through the main streefs'to the/river .side, where gaily lighted launehes.'.spee.dboats, and river steamers pilecL The Demon of Depression was hung on-a gibbet and his body burned, the ashes, being' cast: overboard. A-large ; crowd, sang "Pack Up Your Troubles" as the Princess was taken ashore after Depression's death; she was formally welcomed by - the. Mayor. -It is estimated 'that- ten thousand people witnessed the proceedings.
