Schluter had given information to the.police regarding,' another criminal. His,action in thus assisting the police became known to. other prisoners in Mount Eden, some of whom had -gone out of their way. to ill-treat him. It was because of * their ill-treatment that he had decided to escape. Mr.; Sulliva,n referred to. the police report denying the prisoner's allegations. '.'I wouM ask your Honour to disregard the. reference in the report about wireless sets and that a!screwdriver was found in Schluter's room," continued Mr. Sullivan.' "In. prison, Schluter was looked upon as a man responsible for wireless sets being found in possession of prisoners, but there is something-more in it than the suggestion by the police." He was sentenced to two years, in addition to his present term.
