A SUCCESSFUL YEAR

In a speech that. reflected the results of nearly three' hundred associated - companies, scattered throughout the world, Mr. Francis D'Arcy Cooper, chairman of Lever Bros., Ltd:,'' announced at the general meeting a profit of £5,903,497, an increase of £153,839 over the previous year. More was spent onj advertising than ever, before in the history of the company, and the whole of the expenditure -was written off before-arriving at the profits.. In the home market new "sales - -records ' of" soap were made,, the. advertised ' proprietary brands showing marked sales resilience. The sales of the most successful. Lux toilet soap, reached the' figure •of 274,537,208 tablets—an increase of nearly eleven million tablets. The chairman: paid a tribute; to.. the executives of the associated > companies overseas, whose.;dHSeult.es, he said, had been increased by the .uncertainty of the exchantre and the general' trade depression. Viscount Leverhulme, governor o£ the company, , warmly supported the tribute. _.....-
