THE WIN-AND-PLACE MACHINE

At a meeting of stewards of the Wellington Trotting Club, held last evening, it was decided to apply to the executive of the New- Zealand, Trotting; Conference for permission to install'the win-and-place system of betting at . their ..approaching meeting, to. be held on Saturday, March 4. With a view: to adopting the win-and-place system at its meeting on Saturday nest, the" Auckland Trotting Club recently, applied to the Conference executive for the necessary permission, • and the request was grauted. This will bo the first trotting meeting in the Dominion to put the new system in operation. " Npinihations for the Wellington Trotting Club's Autumn Meeting, to be held on March _, will, fall due with the secretary, Mr. W. Pere, Box 4, Petohe, on ■Wednesday, next, February 22, at 8 p.m. the principal event is the R. A. .Armstrong Memorial, of 300 soys,; including an exceptionally handsome canteen of cutlery, valued at £10, presented to the club by James .Buchanan-and Co. The classes of the two races for straight-out trotters have been tightened up by 5 seconds and 6 seconds respectively,. and • the in these ""event's have been" increased by 10 soys and 15 .soys respectively above those offered at the Gold Cup Meeting. , Principal' interest' among trotting fans this week will centre in the Auckland Trotting Club's Meeting on Saturday next.
