BAND'S FAREWELL RECITAL.

The farewell recital arranged by the Port Nicholson Band for this evening at the Town Hall, should prove to be one of the most brilliant entertainments of its kind to be staged in Wellington for many years. The band itself—the champion band of New Zealand—will feature in its programme all the test and own choice pieces that will be played at the Dunedin contest next week, so that the Wellington public is given an opportunity of hearing the best of band music in most favourable circumstances. In addition, highly talented artists will be assisting in the programme. Miss Kathleen Ferris, the brilliant soprano, and Mr. Ken Macaulay will both be giving items, and Mr. Owen Pritchard, who will give some humorous numbers, will also lead community singing. Mr. Will Yates, well-known 2YA artist, will also be appearing. Among the numbers to be given by the band is Dr. Ireland's "A Downland Suite," specially composed for the Empire championship contest at the Crystal Palace, London. Mr. Frank Wright, the adjudicator for the Dunedin contest, has said that "A Downland Suite" is the greatest work yet written for a brass band. Its work called for the utmost artistry and musicianship, and would tax the technique of the most capable band.
