FAILURE TO ACCOUNT
SUMS OF MONEY STOLEN
•A sentence of three months' imprisonment was imposed by Messrs. E. M. Wylfe and H. H. Price, J.P'.'s, at the Magistrate's Court to-day on Thomas Joseph Leyett, a salesman, aged 40, who pleaded guilty to four charges of receiving sums or money amounting to £16 11s 3d and failing to account for it to W. L. Henderson, Ltd., thereby committing theft. Detective-Sergeant Kevell said that fora period of about twelve months the accused was employed by W. L. Henderson, Ltd., as a salesman on a commission basis. In October, 1932, he lost his job through dishonesty and drinking, but continued to associate -with the firm's customers. He obtained from fou? of them the amount of money mentioned in the charges and converted it to his own use. He had previously been before the Court tor false pretences, breach' of probation, and theft. . . Mr. A. J. Mazengarb, who' appeared for i the accused, said that at one time Levett had held quite a good position in the city. He lived beyond his means, and then the trouble commenced. Since his last conviction he had made efforts to rehabilitate himself. The present offences, said counsel, were committed while he was move or less on a drinking bout.
