STOKES VALLEY DANCE
A very, popular plain and fancy dress dance was held recently by the Stokes Valley Women's Institute, the proceeds of which will be given toward the children's Christmas party. The energetic committee, which helped to make the evening successful, comprised Miss Poppy Young (convener) and Mesdames Cobby, Fenton, Herdman, Hurney, and Miss Joan Young. The prizewinners were: Miss D. Cooper (lamp shade), Mr. N. Fenton (tiwi), Mrs. Dalton (white-wash man), and, Mr. K. Thompson (burlesque- W.I. member). Others in fancy costumes -were: Mesdames Huse (Eastern), Fenton (mannequin), Cobby ' (hiker), Summers ("hard-up"), K. Thompson and Dyett (golfers); Misses Weeber- (Victorian), P. Young (Lido lady), J. Young (apple blossom), B. Young (midshipman), P. Cording (granny), E. White (departed spirit), E. Wylie (Institute emblem); Messrs. ■• Humey; (Rajah), Pickles ("harcl-up"), Springhall (Mexican), and Wakelin (Gipsy). An excellent home-made supper, provided by the members, and the singing of "Auld Lang Syne" brought a very enjoyable evening to a close.
