SPECIMEN GOLD ORE
A very interesting exhibit of rich gold ore from the Chapman claim, recently reported from Coromandel, is to be seen in the windows of Messrs. Stewart Dawson and Co. and W. Littlejohn and Son,. Ltd., Lambton quay. The slate rock containing the gold is typical of the Coromandel country and is heavily impregnated with the alluring precious metal. The specimens came from the new find which occasioned considerable excitement recently in Auckland and were brought to Wellington for inspection by the Minister of Mines .(the Hon; C; E. Macmillan) and the head of the Mines Department (Mr. A. H. Kimbell), who were very much impressed, and pleased with the richness of the ore. Great satisfaction was expressed to Mr. A. M. Samuel, M.P., thatythe efforts of the Department in giving assistance to prospectors both in the North and South Islands was bearing evidence, of some tangible and valuable returns for the money expended.
