British trade returns for August, as compared with August, 1931, show that imports decreased by £11,968,000, exports by £-585,000, and re-exports by £358,000. ■ The principal decreases were:— Imports.—Meat, £640,000; live animals for food, £1,115,000; other food and^ drink, £1,947,000; wood and timber, £841,000; iron and steel and manufactures thereof, £859,000; woollen yarns and manufactures, £921,000; apparel, £1,227,000. Exports.—Vehicles, £772,000. The increases were:— Imports.—Cotton, £632,000; oils and fats, £709,000. Exports.—Cotton yarns and manufactures, £286,000; chemicals, £ 316,000."
