LONDON, Ist July

Knmcrous outstanding performances were recorded in the latest series of county cricket matches, among them being a notable bowling feat by Freeman, who took seventeen wickets for Kent against Warwickshire. Hazell (Somerset) and Larwood (Notts) were also in splendid form, with the ball. The Nawab of Pataudi (M\C.C.) and HazelllSS (Cambridge University), playing in the same match, each, registered a fine batting double, and Iddon (Lancashire) scored a double century. In the match between Gloucestershire and Notts each side made the same score in the first innings. : . . The following are the results:— M.C.C. 300 (the Nawab of Pataudi 112) and 230 for eight wickets, declared (the. Middlesex 203 and 133; Leicestershire 248 and 70 for seven, wickets. Leicestershire won by three wickets.^ (There is evidently an inaccuracy in the cabled figures).

Levcson-Gower's Eleven 195 and 147; Oxford "University 317 (Brooke 113) and 29. for no wickets. Oxford University won by ten wickets.

There hare been quite a number of instances of a bowler capturing seventeen wickets in a first-class match, but A. P. Freeman has now performed the feat on two occasions and in that respect he takes rank with W. Mead, the former Essex player. lii four consecutive innings Freeman has taken thirtywickets at a average of 7.86—-five for 88, eight for 56, eight for 31, and nine for 61. The previous occasion on which Freeman took seventeen wickets in. a match was against Susses in 1922 at the small cost of 67 runs.
