BAD WEATHER

LIKELY TO BE GENERAL

1 Some scattered rain fell yesterday, when light to moderate and variable winds prevailed. Although there was much cloud and mist 'about, .the weather as a whole was fair "over the greater part of tho Dominion. During last night, however, tho rain area rapidly extended, and fallssince then have been fairly general, and heavy •-on -the West Coast. Pressure has -been falling gradually for .several days, but the" fall last night became more pronounced, especially" in southern districts. By this morning an intense depression was located to tho we^t of New Zealand, with the result that winds had become northerly generally- and had increased considerably in force.

Auckland had a cloudy and showery day yesterday with light and variablo winds. In Wellington tho weather was again fine, but haze and cloud thick-, ened. In the early hours this morning three points of rain .fell. Christchurch had a dull day yesterday with somo drizzling rain, tho wind at times being strong from a north-easterly quarter. In Dunedin.the weatherevras (lull and threatening, a strong northeasterly wind prevailing. • It was raining there at 9 a.m. to-day. '

Winds will be from a north-easterly or northerly quarter and generally moderate to strong, galo force being reached in places. Cloudy and unsettled weather with general rain is forecasted. There are likely to be some heavy falls northward from Nelson and Marlborough, and snow is probable on the ranges. , .
