CYCLING FEDERATION

ATTEMPTS ON RECORDS

CLUB'S CHANQE OF. NAME

"Now that the way is clear, I think we ■would be wise in asking the members of the New Zealand Cycling Federation to call a meeting and get properly constituted," said Mr. H. D. Bennett, at last night's meeting of the Cycling Council of the New Zealand Amateur Athletic Association. Other members agreed, and the suggestion was adopted.. _ The secretary of the..Port Nicholson Amateur Cycling Club .(Incorporated) advised that the club, at its annual meeting, had decided: to change its name to the Poneke AC C with a recommendation that the other Port Nicholson Club should also change its name. Another resolution was passed that until the newly-forni-ed Hutt Valley Club was properly affiliated its members should be allowed to compete in the Poneke Club s, races. The council approved" of the second resolution. In regard to the other^matter it' was decided to write to the Wellington Centre forwarding, .a-' copy of the 'letter, with a recommendation that the name be accepted and that a meeting of the Cycling Centre be held as soon as possible after the rulqs and list of members, with amateur declarations, have been supplied.

J ATTEMPTS ON RECORDS. - • The. question of whether the council should Tecognise attempts made on records, particularly, performances made 'on the road from town to town, was discuss^ ed briefly. ■< : , ..'..- It was decided to lay down the principle that particulars musti.be' supplied befbre theattempt is made and that there must be Ml compliance with any conditions the council might see fit to impose. Under no other circumstances, said Mr. McVilly, could the Cycling Council take cognisance of any attempt on records. The matter arose out of a letter received from Auckland giving certain particulars in regard to the trip from Auckland to - Wellington made by the lady, cyclist. Miss V. Baird, at Easter time. "The secretary (Mr. L. A. Tracy) raised the point of whether it would not be advisable to approve of no other records than were provided for in the rules. The meeting, however, "was not prepared to adopt the suggestion.
