FINER AND WARMER

BUT NOT FOR LONG

Since Saturday the weather has been somewhat changeable with cold southerly winds. Showers have fallen in isolated places, especially on the East Coast, but although there has been considerable cloud at times the weather in most parts has been fair during the week-end, whilst yesterday was fine practically everywhere. The anticyclone which has been moving gradually on to the Dominion has since- yesterday covered the whole country, and its, centre this morning was located to the east of the South Island. TJie result has been that winds have- become ■mainly "northerly from Cook Strait southward.

It was fine in Auckland on Saturday, but some rain fell that night, and it was showery on Sunday, with a southwesterly breeze. Monday in the northern city was a fine and pleasant day. Wellington enjoyed brilliant weather on Saturday, with a light northerly wind. Sunday morning was also fine, but a fresh southerly sprang up in the afternoon and some light showers fell. There were showers also early on Monday morning, but the rest of the day was fine, the southerly gradually dying down to a calm in the evening. Christchurch enjoyed a sunny day on Saturday, but the evening was overcast and there was a'trace of rain. On Sunday a keen south-westerly blew and the weather was dull, but it was sunny again on Monday. Light rain fell in Dunediri on Saturday morning, but dur,ing the rest of the day and on Sunday the weather was fair, although the south-westerly wind was cold. It was sunny all yesterday and calm.

Light to moderate and variable winds will, tend to' northerlies and freshen somewhat. The weather at first will be fine generally with rising temperatures, but cloud is lik'ely*to increase in western and northern districts and rain will gradually develop.
