TOCH SERVICES

The lighting, of,-the -Lamp of Ee-•in'embrance-was- the central feature of the Tpc H. service held at St. PaulV Pro-Cathedral last evening. The large congregation included His Excellency the Governor-General, Lord* Bledisloe, and Lady Bledisloe, the Chief Justice, Sir Michael Myers, the Minister of Public Works, the Bight" Hon. J: <i. Coates, the- Commodore of the New Zealand Division of the Eoyal Navy, Commodore P. Burgas-Watson, and Mr. B. A. Wright, H.P. for Wellington Suburbs. The lessons, the first from Eeclesiastes and the second from the Book of Nehemiah,.'were both read by His Excellency. The clergy who participated. in the service and occupied places in^the chancel were Canon Pereival James, the Bey. J. L. BflultonSmith, Edv. Gordon McKenzie, Eev. H. Sharp, and Rev. W. Davies; Tho church was darkened for the ceremony of Lighting the Lamp, while Toe H members and League-of Women Helpers stood round. The well-known Toe H words of remembrance, "We will I remember them .' .' ." were1 followed Iby an interval of silence, after which | "The Last Post" and "Tho Eeveille". I were sounded by Petty Officer Boyce. Tapers held, by "members of Toe H and the League of Women Helpers were then-lit, and following further responses tne lights of the cathedral were again lighted and the congregation joined in'singing "The Hymn: of Light."
