ESPERANTO CLUB
The weekly meeting of the Wellington Esperanto Club was held last evening at the V.M.C.A. Mr. E. C. Jack presided.
The chairman stated that at the great Rotary Conference held at AVien (Austria), attended by 6000 Kotarians, the question of adopting an international language vas discussed, and that a committee had been set up to consider the claim of Esperanto. Practical demonstrations were given by Eotarians from England, France, Holland, Germany, and Austria who could speak the language, to prove the effectiveness of the language for Kotarian gatherings, and to enable them to give real effect to the sixth object of Rotary. The new class for beginners, at which the whole grammar of Esperanto is covered in four or five lessons, was working Well. Classes at various stages of efficiency < were conducted by experienced teachers. At the close of the teaching':.. Miss Coralie Smy thson gave an interesting talk on "Pictures and Their Lessons." Miss Duguid read an amusing story "The Tourist Agency." Mrs. Steffins contributed an item entitled "Ibrahim,: Son of Adham." Mr. W. H. King 'entertamed the meeting with a guessing, competition, and Mr. L. E. Dust explained in Esperanto how the water supply of the city operates. Correspondence was received from Esperantists in Czechoslovakia • and Siberia.
