CHINESE AEROPLANES
TO COMBAT JAPANESE
PILOTS SWORN TO DO OR DIE
(Received Bth February, 10 a.m.)
SHANGHAI, 7th February. Twenty-six Chinese aeroplanes have arrived to combat the Japanese bombers. The pilots, who have been trained in England, America, France, and Germany, have made their wills. They have sworn to fight to the death. The Nanking Ministry of War has decided to utilise aeroplanes against the Japanese.
The Mayor of Greater Shanghai informed the British Consul-General that bombers would not be used. Every care will be taken not to imperil foreigners within the settlements. He asked the Consul to reassure foreign nationals.
The Chinese airmen are believed to be using Vickers-Vimy fighters, of which England delivered 130 twelve years ago. They were assembled only this week.
