RIFLE SHOOTING

SENIOR UNION SHIELD

KARORI V. PETONE

The Karori and the Petone Defence Rifle Clubs competed for the Senior Union Shield (held by Karori) over ranges 300, 500, and 600 yards at Treutbam on Saturday. This shield is competed for by the Wellington clubs by challenge. This is the first time that the shield has been shot for under the new rules, and has not had the same satisfaction and interest as previous years owing to coaching nowbeing disallowed. Membersl agree that a team'shoot as a team, should be under avcoach. Team shooting is considered tlie "cream" ;of rifle shooting." The IJetone Rifle Club selected a very strong team. Each member has at.one time represented New-Zealand, and they fully upheld the reputation which they have won throughout New Zealand as club and team shots. On this occasion ' they proved too strong for Karori over all ranges, wiuning the {'shield-' by a good margin of 33 points. i After-.the shoot, President H. Marshall.' of the Karori Club, presented the shield, and congratulated Petone on their wonderful..performance. President R. E.. Flaws received the^shield on behalf of the Petone Club,- remarking on the '.pleasure-.it.- gave him-to receive the same. Cheers were given.for.the winners and losers. .
