FORCES AT HONG KONG
(Received Ist February, 10 a.m.) HONG JIONG, 31st January. Private advice from Shanghai indicates that the Chinese and Japanese Peaca Conference failed. The cruiser Berwick departs for Shanghai at dawn to-morrow, carrying a company of the Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders. Meanwhile, tin-hatted British troops and police are patrolling Hong Kong streets as an emergency measure.
