JAPANESE ASSURANCE

LONDON, 31st January. A loreign Office communique states that the Japanese Foreign Office assured Sir Oswald Lindley, British Ambassador at Tokio, that nothing will be done endangering British lives and property in the Shanghai International Settlement, which will not be used as a base of attack.
