'..'. ~.'; While an expression of positive American policy toward the Tar East emergency is withheld pending developments, the discussions between the Secretary of State, Mr. :H.li. Stimson, and the British Ambassador, Sir Ronald Lindsay, indicate' that Britain will cooperate with the United States in any steps necessary to protect AngloAmerican; property and nationals. This has resulted in the dispatch of preliminary orders to tho; American destroyers at Manila to be prepared to proceed to Shanghai 'and up the Yangtse River ttf protect American interests if necessary. -■:
