LONDON MEAT MARKET IMPROVES.
The Bank of New- Zealand, Produce Department, has received the following advice rrom its London.office as at close of business this week:—The market for wether mutton has improved owing to shorter supplies. There is better inquiry for ewes. The market for lambs has improved owing to small supplies available. There is a steady trade in beef. Trade generally rather better with values improving Wethers, light 4%d to 4%d per Ib, heavy ,3%d to 4%d per lb; ewes, 2%d to 3%d E er«lh lambs,: 2's 6%d to 6%d per lb, 8 s 6%d to 7d per lb, seconds 5%& to 6d per lb; ox hinds, 2 S-8d to 2 7-8 d per lb, fores l%d to 2d,per lb; cow hinds, 2d to 2%d per lb, fores l%d to l%d per lb. : Messrs. Levin and Co*, Ltd., have received the following cable , from their London agents, dated 29th January:— Frozen meat quotations (prices on a "delivered" basis, i.e., including storage charges, cartage, market tolls, etc.): North Island down lambs, 28-361b 7d per lb, 3642 7 l-8d; best North Island crossbred lambs, 28-36 6%d, 36-42 6%d; North Island second quality lambs, average 30-31, 5%d; best North Island wether sheep, under 48 4%d, 48-56 4 5-Bd, 56-64 4 3-Bd, 64-72 4 l-8d; \North Island ewes, under 48 3 l-Bd, 48-56 2 7-Bd, 56-64 2%d 64-72 2\5-8d; New Zealand prime ox beef, 160-220, 2 3-Bd. Compared with last week's quotations, North Island down lambs %d per lb higher; best North Island crossbred lambs, 36-421b, l-8d per lb higher; best North Island wethers, under 481b, <%d per lb higher/48-561b 5-8 d per lb higher, 64-721b 3-8 d per lb higher; North Island ewes, under,4Blb l-Bd>per lb higher; New Zealand prime ox;beef, l-Bd;per lfrhigher.'
