DRAWING BANNED
A pencil . drawing described as ''Standing Nude," by Mr. Eric Gill, tlic sculptor, which was. to have been shown at the Sheffield: Society of Arts exhibition, has been vetoed by the Cor-poration-Art Gallery Committee, says the "Daily Mail." The man. who knew least about both the drawing and the veto was Mr. Gill. I found him (wrote a "Daily Mail" reporter) working cheerfully above the traffic in Portland place, where he is' completing a sculpture of Prospero ana Ariel on the British - Broadcasting Corporation's new building. He was stationed on a platform, around which were sackings and cloths..to hide him -from,.-public .view. I-climbed* a high: ladder to reach him. He was i wearing two pairs of glasses, a smock; and shorts. "It's all news to mci" he said as he chiselled. "I don't even . know which drawing they have vetoed. When the Sheffield Society of Arts asked me to send some of my work for their exhibition I told my agents to.do so." . ■ ■-. •■■'.'■ ■
