Professor A. C. Paterson, of Auckland, who has been in Europe on a year's leave, is to return this month in time for the opening of the university college year. Mrs.. Paterson. will stay in South Africa, her former home, for some time before returning.

The death occurred at his residence, "Harlesden," 95, Eintoul street, Wellington, on the 10th January of Mr. Alfred Augustus Green, a retired builder. The late Mr. Green, who was 79 years of age, was born in London. He arrived with his wife in Wellington on the sailing ship Hururiui in 1876. He was a member of the Loyal Antipodean Order of Oddfellows, Manchester Unity, for the last 54 years. He is survived by one son and three daughters: Mr. W. H. Green, Mrs. Charles Mells, Mrs. B. K. Alderson, and Mrs. James Brown, all of. Wellington. .His wife predeceased him nine years ago.

Mr. V, W. Payne, who was well known as a dredging engineer in Otago in the 'nineties and the first decade, of the prosent century, arrived in Dunedin on Monday f rom ' Christchurch. Though his present .visit is principally in the nature of a holiday, Mr. Payne is still interested in dredging here, and he will probably spend'some time in Central Otagp -visiting various goldfields before returning North (states : the' "Otago Daily Times"). Since leaving Dunedin shortly before the outbreak of the Great War, Mr. Payne's interests have been chiefly centred in the tin dredging in the Federated Malay States.' ■.. '.;' ' " ' " ■ ". Dr. Gt. Cr..Kenny, a well-known surgeon, who has been resident in New Zealand for more than forty years,.died at his residence, Parnell, Auckland, on Monday evening. Dr. Kenny,' who: was the second son of the late Colonel'■: W. J. Gr." Kenny, of the Indian Armyj was born at Trichihopoli; Central India, in 1853, and.came to New Zealand with! Mrs. Kenny in 188 p. He becamo' a house surgeon; at Wellington Hospital, and was afterwards appointed firgt surgeon-superintendent of the! Waikato Hospital, a position he filled for twelve years. After spending' four years at Bptorua., he was transferred to ..Te Aroha, where for eighteen years he combined .private practice with. th« duties of mqdical ■ officer at the: sanatorium. After leaving: Te Arpha, Dr. Kenny spent four y<ears pnVFanning Island as medical officer to the Pacific Cable Board, returning.at. the end of that period to Devonport. His last appointment was that of medical officer to the cable ship Recorder, formerly known as the Iris.. He never completely recovered from the effects of a motor accident in which he was involved •■ a short time ago. He is survived by Mrs. Konny and by a brother . and /sister, Major W. W.
