President Doumer, in a New Year message to the world, given at tfie annual reception to- the Diplomatic Corps at the Elysee, said that in the face of the economic crisis France hoped to convince the nations of the ever-growing solidarity of initerests which would lead to a policy of mutual aid, permitting a brighter future. France was loyal to her traditions and ready now, as always, to co-oper-ate actively in. measures calculated to mitigate the evils afflicting humanity. Her co-operation had no limits beyond the legitimate care of her own stability and a guarantee that her: sacrifices would not imperil equilibrium which was the precious pledge of peace.
