LEAVING BY MONOWAI
TO RACE IN AMERICA
SAN FRANCISCO, Sth December
Mr. Davis, part-owner of Phar Lap, who transhipped at Honolulu from tho Aorangi, has arrived here.
He states that Phar Lap wiJI leave Wellington at about Christmas on the Monowai in charge of his trainer, Woodcock.
Mr. Davis asserted that ho found justification for taking Phar Lap from Australia in tho fact (hat sitico the horso had beaten everything there there was nothing left to do but to take him to America.
"His trip to America is a gamble with climate, water, and other peculiar American conditions, but he is a wonderfully good-tempered horse and easily adapts himself to conditions and circumstances," said Mr. Davis. '"I have been away so long that I do not know just what American racing conditions are, but if I get as square a deal Here as I did in Australia I will be well pleased," Mr. Davis stated that he was unable to consider further plans now, and does not know whether Phar Lap will see Australia again. He admitted there was a danger that the horse would not become acclimatised, but ho hoped to get him ready for the Aqua Calionte Handicap in March.
Mr. H. A. Telford, of Trontham, at whose establishment Phar Lap is now resting, confirmed the statement by Mr. Davis that the famous horso was booked to sail on f.lio Monowa-i. 'I'ho vessel sails from Wellington on -!)tk December.
