WELLINGTON SUBURBS
MR. M'LENNAN AT KELBURN
The Independent Coalition candidate for Wellington Suburbs, Mr. K. M' Lennan, addressed a small audience in Kelburn last night, when he described the attitude he would take up in the House if elected.
He said he would oppose a further reduction in the wages of the Civil Service, and while he was not in favour of an increase in the education vote, he would fight against any decrease if it lessened the facilities of the child to obtain an education in the primary and secondary schools. On a straightout no-confidence motion he would vote with the Coalition, but on questions which concerned the welfare of the community he would vote against the Government if he considered that it was acting contrary to the interests of the people as a whole. Mr. M'Lennan condemned the lack of continuity on the system of railway management, and said that large amounts of money had been wasted on workshops. The Tawa Flat deviation, in his opinion, did not justify the outlay, and would benefit only those who were obtaining the unearned increment ou land at Tawa Flat. The only excuse for the deviation ho could see was that it would save the using of a second engine on a few trains per day, and the saving in this direction would take generations to wipe out the costs of the deviation.
