EXPORT LAMB TRADE
With a view to still further improving the quality o£ tjhe Dominion's lambs, and also educating farmers as to the requirements of the Home trade, the New Zealand Meat Producers' Board is inaugurating a competition amongst districts throughout the Dominion. The two islands have been divided into suitable districts. Local A. and P. Associations in each district are to be the controlling bodies in connection with the competition. The board is offering a perpetual challenge shield for the best district display of lambs from each island; and special prizes for the best individual lots shipped from each island. Each pen entered for competition to consist of three lambs, and entries from farmers limited to not more than two pens. Lambs in the North Island are to bo killed not later than loth December, and lambs in the South Island not later than 31st January. The board suggests that when the lambs are killed a "field day" might be organised at local freezing works in order to enable farmers to see the carcasses of lambs after killing and compare quality. The lambs are then to be shipped Home, where the London manager of the board will arrange for judging special displays.
