THE MONTH'S WORK
Mr. A. Walker presided ove:- a meeting of the Hutt Valley Electric Power Board yesterday. There were also present Messrs. J. W. M'Ewan, W. H. P. Barber, E. Windley, L. Stewart, W. H. Lawrence, A. W. Press, A. Anderson, A. J. Hobbs, and A. J. M'Curdy.
Statistical information for October, with totals to date in parentheses, were presented by the engineer-general manager (Mr. E. F. Hollands) as follows:—Number of consumers, 33 (10,730); ranges, 1 (1398); water heaters, ,9 (1228). The total connected load was 217 k.w. (38,117 k.w.), made up of light 38 (4823), heat 141 (26,051), and power 37 (7242). The maximum demands during the month were 2^3 k.v.a. at 6.45 p.m. on Friday, 2nd October at .91 power factor from Melling, and 1612 k.v.a. at 7.30 p.m. on Friday, 16th October, at .97 power factor from Khaudallah. Units registered for the month were 1,076,440 from Melling and 743,800 from Khandallah. In October the board's nineteen motor vehicles ran 12,847 miles, consuming 684 gallons of benzine. ... Eeinspection of the first year's installations in Petone had been completed, and the Akatarawa district was now receiving attention. A statement of power sales for the seven months, Ist April-31st October, 1931 arid 1930, to the nearest pound, was submitted as follows, last year's figures be'mpc in parentheses:—Domestic and commercial lighting, £21,025 (£30,962); heatin" cooking, and water heating, £17,303 (£15,333); power, £14,671 (£15,851); street lighting, £2532 (£2458); penalty, nil (£92). Discounts allowed amounted to £4953 (£2788), leaving the total revenue from electricity sales £60,577 (£61,929), a decrease for this year.
