THE COALITION
MR. ATMORE AS CRITIC
"APOSTLES OF GLOOM"
(By Telegraph.-^-Press Association.)
NELSON, This Day.
Mr. H. Atmore, Independent Liberal, and ex-Minister of Education in the United Cabinet, addressed a^crowded meeting in the Theatre Eoyal last evening. '
Hestated that he stood in the same interests as at the last election.' Ho could have been the Coalition candidate, but seeing that all the principal portfolios with one exception were, handed to Eeform, and that tha Coalition had adopted the Eeform policy, it was in the interests of Nelson and the .Dominion that he should give his support to measures calculated to advance the welfare of the people.
He condemned the Beform Party for extravagance, and, also condemned the abolition of the graduated' land tax. Many members of. the Coalition were apostles of gloom, who could only think in terms of increased taxation, which further increased unemployment. He preferred to tender allegiance to the people of his district rather than to a party leader. Mr. Atmofe received a vote of thanks and confidence.
