MR. M'LENNAN'S ADDRESS

Mr. K. M'Lennan, the Independent candidate for Wellington Suburbs, was given an enthusiastic reeeptjion in the Council Chambers, Kanori, last evening. There was a very large attendance, and the chair was occupied by Mr. F. J. Hatcher. The c andidate strongly criticised the Government for curtailing educational facilities and declared himself as strongly opposed to any reduction in the Education Vot&. Hr also said that an important portfolio such as Education a'liould be controlled by a Minister fleeted by the popular vote, The Civil Service cut and the possibility of another should tho Coalitiog

Party be relumed was forcibly dealt with, and the candidate* suggested that a goodly number of Independents in Parliament would keep the Government in check. As an Independent, ho would vote solidly against any further cuts. Mr. M'Lennan paid a high tribute to the'wives of the men who had suffered through the reduced family income and nro daily carrying a heavy burden in trying to make ends meet. Tho candidate also marie a strong appeal for the support of New Zealand industries. A vote of thanks to Mr. M'Lennan was passed by acclimation.
