FAIRWAY MAY BE GOOD

One of the horses who will be well backed in whatever event he starts at Levin on Saturday (Weravoa. Hack or Laike Hack Handicap) is Fairway, who has been only twice produced yet and won at Waverley at his second outing. Fairway is a three-year-old bay gelding by Catmint from the Marble Arch mare Merry Tiff, a daughter of the imported Merry Nif, by Merry Hampton. He is particularly well related, as Merry Tiff is n full sister to Shower Gold (dam of King Lv and Gold Rain), Merry Nell (a good winner), and Archway, and is a halfsister to General Latour (sire of Karapoti jnd Te Kara). He was bred by Mr. A. i. Toxward, of Dannevirke, and was offered at the yearling sales eighteen months ago, but was passed in at 150 guineas. Subsequently he was obtained privately by Mr. M. Miller, who formerly raced Some Lad and Desert Lad. He is now being trained at Bulls by A. E. Neaie. His first start was in the Trial Plate at Marton last month, when apparently he did not show up prominently, but at his next outing he was much better fancied, and he justified the confidence of his party by leading the Wilson Hack Handicap field home comfortably at Waver•Tf. Among those he beat were Tentcall, Kotnhi Eka, Kissless, Takahue, and Singer, and it is significant that such company was chosen for him in preference to the maidens on the same clay.
