ORGAN RECITAL
A recent coiner to St. John's Presbyterian' Church, Willis street, as organist, Mr. W. L. Haggitt, F.T.C.L., L.A.8., has already created a favourable impression by his playing. Last night, through the holding of a special organ recital, he was enabled to cover a wider field than that afforded by church music pure and simple. Mr. Haggitt showed that he is a distinct acquisition to the ranks o£ Wellington's organists. Last night's programme opened with the formidable Bach "Prelude and Fugue in E Flat Major." Other interesting numbers were Rheinberg's "Pastoral Sonata," "Largo" from Dvorak's "New World Symphony," Cesar Franck's "Piece Heroique," the Karg-Elert choral improvisations on "In Dulci Jubilo," and Mr.. Haggitt's own composition, '"Chant Triumphale," the title of which aptly describes its nature. Other items played were Wolstenholme's ■ "Question" and "Answer," "Intermezzo in D Flat" (Hollins), and "At Evening" (Buck). The assisting vocalist was Miss Hilda Chudley, who sang two Tchaikovsky sonsrs, "A Heavy Tear" and "Legend," and Ivahn's "Aye- Maria." -
