GOLD STANDARD
'SUPERFICIAL AND STUPID"
".One of the causes of the world's difficulties to-day is the superficial and stupid gold standard," declared Mr. R. Semple, Labour candidate for Wellington East, at Lyall Bay last night. The gold standard, he said, was wrong in principle and wrong in. every particular. Tho amount of gold in a country did not represent the country's wealth. Mr. Semple claimed that the gold standard lent itself to manipulation and control by the usurers of money, and that that had been proved conclusively during the war years.
