"BIG, HAPPY MAN"
LEADER OF AFFAIRS
"The present Prime Minister is a natural-born pessimist," declared Mr. E. Semple, Labour candidate for Wellington East, at Lyall Bay last night. "As I said in the House, he is the apostle of gloom. He sees nothing bright in life; he has no vision, no direct objective,' no ideal, and no confidence in himself or his people." (Applause.) That, Mr. Seniple contended, was rational and reasonable criticism. Tho type wanted at the head of affairs today was a big, happy man, who had a stout heart, vision, courage, strength of character, and outstanding personality, to get a country like New Zealand out of her difficulties. (Cries of "Hear, hear.") "We need a Ballance or a Scddon," continued Mr. Semple, amidst applause. "I have sat in the House whon the stars were starting to disappear in tho sky, and have had a look round in that Chamber and thought I saw a shadow of Seddon, fighting as in the years gone by for the things his supposed supporters handed over to his enemies. They have bartered away every principlo he. fought for and died for."
