SECONDARY SCHOOLS

ATHLETIC CHAMPIONSHIPS,

The cream of the talent iv the secondary schools of the Wellington province as far north as Mastertou will be taking part at Athletic Park on Saturday in the annual collegiate athletic championships. This gathering in past years has been a feature of the school year; it provides very keen competition in the three grades that are catered for, and not only that, the standard of performance is uniformly high. At the'various college sports meetings this year there have been some noteworthy achievements, both in track and field events. Boys have cleared over sft in the high jump and over 20ft in the long jump; and there are sprinters who have been breaking llsec for the 100 yds consistently. Apart from the contest for individual honours, the representatives of the different colleges will be out also to win the handsome M'Evedy Shield, presented by Dr. P. F. M'Evedy, of Wellington, for teams' competition. Everything points to the meeting providing attractive sport in every sense of the term, and the Secondary Schools' Amateur Athletic Association is hopeful of the public patronage the meeting deserves.
