GIRL'S SUCCESS
DESIGNING STAGE GOWNS
Miss Alison M'Lellan Hunter is an English girl who has made good in a foreign country (states the "Daily Mail"). At tho age of 2(5 she is creating costumes for the stars of tho New York stage, and can go to Hollywood on any salary she chooses to ask. Yet only two years ago she began business on her own with the proverbial "tuppence" in her pocket. No genii answering a call from Aladdin's lamp has aided Miss Hunter in her success; hard work and her own talent are responsible. Before settling in New York, Miss Hunter had seen the world. She had lived in Paris and Buenos Aires, where, it is reported, she danced with the Prince of Wales. Some time ago Miss Hunter, who is tho daughter of a former British naval officer, found sho must cam her own living. She went to London and became a model in tho shop of a court dressmaker, winning recognition in her profession when she "modelled" for Princess Mary. When she came to the United States sho determined to design, instead of merely wear, beautiful costumes. One of her first customers was the famous actress, Miss Helen Hayes. Recently a new musical show, "Everybody's Welcome," started on Broadway, and Miss Hunter attended. Sho designed the dresses for one of the stars, and was present to gauge the effect of her own creations from tho point of view of the audience.
