"LILAC TIME FAIR"

ISLAND BAY CHURCH

A "Lilac Tiino Fair" was held recently in the Island Bay Presbyteriaii Church Hall. Tho Rev. G. W. Hunt (Moderator of tho Presbytery) officially opened llto fete. Little Joan Rogers, from the orphanage, presented Mrs. Hunt with a bouquet of flowers, and Jeanie Virtue handed one to Mrs. Ireland. The hall was tastefully decorated in lilac tones, and the various stalls overflowed with good things. The stallholders were as follows:—Work stall, Mesdames Keys and Scrymgeour; cakes, Mesdames Connor, Roberts, and Robertson; produce, Mesdames Fanthorpe and Davidson; sweets, Mesdames Craig, Marshall, and Miss Paton; icj creams, Miss I. Craig; Sunday school stall, Misses Marshall and Hollies (assisted by senior girls); tearooms IVlisses Paulson, Brown, and Mrs. Fleming; men's stall, Messrs. Davidson, Connor, Grant, and Orr. In the evening the proceedings were enlivened by the presentation of a mock court, and many were brought to answer for unwitting misdeeds. Mr. J. Mackay took the part of the judge, Mr. A. L. Craig crown prosecutor, Mr. R. Archer court crier, and Mr. K. Mawson constable. Two songs sung by Mrs. M'Keuzie were much appreciated. The ladies' nail-driving competition was won by Mrs. J. G. Marshall, and the men's by Mr. D. Connor. The ladies' guild, who organised tho fair, deserved much credit for the successful function, the proceeds of which will be devoted to the church funds.
