COATS TRIAL
QUESTIONS OF LAW
PROCEEDINGS FOR APPEAL
A motion asking for leave to reserve questions of law arising out of the trial for the Court of Appeal was filed in the Supreme Court to-day by counsel for George Errol Coats, who was found guilty by a jury and was sentenced to death by Mr. Justice Blair on Wednesday night on a charge of murdering Phillis Avis Symons.
After senteneo of death had been pronounced, senior counsel for the prisoner said that there were some matters in his Honour's direction to the jury which he thought were appealable, and at counsel's request his Honour granted leave to move within five days for leave to appeal, and also for any application to reserve any question of law.
No date has been fixed yet for the hearing of the motion filed to-day.
