INTERESTING FIGURES

Data concerning the activities of the >ower Hutt Relief Committee has been tabulated by the secretary, Mr. Williams. He states that 805 persons have applied for assistance, 554 being married men with children, 101 married men without children, and 150 single men and women living apart from their husbands. During October about 10 per cent, of those registered did not receive assistance. Orders on grocers -to the amount of £15 lls were given by individuals and the League of Mothers, and residents of Stilling street donated groceries. Other donations were: Mr. V. King, chemist, medicines, £14 19s; seed potatoes and manure, £20; Messrs. F. Cooper and Sons, seeds for 2% acres; W. Copping, cabbage plants for %-acre; Nimmo and Blair, sack of peas; T. Waugh and Son, seeds and plants to the value of £14 12s; Mrs. Webb, 700 cabbage plants; Mr. W A Walker, half a sack of 6eed potatoes; Mr. a. A. Skilleter, 2 bags of seed potatoes. „,_,„ ~ The total expenditure was £1517 14s sd, and the fund shows a debit balance of £365. At a meeting o£ the executive on Wednesday, votes of thanks were passed to all donors of cash or goods, and thanks were also given to Mrs. Sharp for the production of "Princess Chrysanthemum," and to St. James's Vestry for the free use for three months (including lighting and heating), of St. James's Hall.
