ELECTION CABLE NEWS

(To the-Editor.) Sir, —One is tempted to wonder whether the person responsible for the supply of cable news to this country is not identical with the political correspondent of tho "Morning Post." In Wednesday's messages, for example, we are _ told _by way of comment on the election for Hillsborough, that Mr. A. V. Alexander is one of the pillars o£ the Co-operative Wholesale Society, "and a strong advocate of a 'free breakfast table,' under which the society is one of the biggest purchasers of Russian wheat." The impartiality of the message is about as apparent as the grammar. Then, again, our discriminating news-vendor goes on': "Among the outstanding features so far is the rebirth of Liberalism, thanks to the wisdom of its leaders in disregarding Mr. Lloyd George's advice to 'hitch their wagon to the Labour cause.'" This little'tit-bit has evidently appealed to you in that it is placed under a heading! Anyhow, if the Pv««is will continue without a protest of any kind to publish the stuff re-hashed from the London Tory sheets, perhaps at least a reader may be allowed to say that, even in this country, there are some who see through the game.—l am, etc., ,:: ' P. J. O'REGAN. 28th October.... [Mr. O'Regan's enthusiasm hap led. him to take a prejudiced view—magnifying one or two small items to which ho objects and failing to take account of the excellence of the news service as a whole. We think that tho general accuracy of the news, especially what Mr. O'Regnn scornk as -'sdilf re-hashed from tho London Tory shoots." has been proved by election vc--1 Mills, and this miplit be admitted even by those who think "everybody's out of *lcp except our Jock."—Ed.]
