SLAUGHTERMEN REFUSE WORK
(By Telegraph.—-Press Association.) AUCKLA]\ TD,This Day. A bombshell has been thrown at the management of the local freezing works by the refusal of additional slaughtermen to accept w.ork. The mon aic understood to be acting on orders from their union m Wellington, not to accept woik till their award has been considcicd by tho Arbitration Court at Chnstchuich on sth November. Tho slough tei men now engaged are not affected, but the icstriction on the engagement of new hands is a seiious matter to the industry, which ii on tho e\o of its busiest season. It is estimated that if the icfusal to woik continues, three hundred to four hundred men who noimally find employment, will' bo affected, and this number will be increased as the lamb killing season approaches its peak. As far as is known only the Auckland UniSn officers have enforced the instructions.
This matter was referred to the secretary of the Freezing Workers' TJnion in Wellington, who said it was the first he had heard of it. The award mention.cd ;is a Dominion one.
