Mr. George Lansbury, who already is mentioned as Leader of Labour in the House of Commons, interprets the result to the fact that the bulk of the people did not understand the economic causes of the world depression "which many vainly imagine will be righted by tariffs." The people, he contends, were really panicked, yet all their fears were groundless. *?
