MAN ON ROOF

MANNERS STREET SEARCH

Flashing torches and constables moving abont the roof of a building in Manners street'shortly* after 8 o'clock last night resulted, in a large crowd of spectators gathering on the opposite side of the road. If they had hoped to •witness the capture of some criminal they were ' disappointed, for although six constables searched the roof and several othors in th« vicinity no arrest was made.

Warning that there was a'man. prowling about the roofs was given by Mts. M. O'Reilly, proprietress of the Palm Court luncheon rooms. Mrs. O'Reilly stated to-day that when she was working in the luncheon room at 8.10 p.m. yesterday she heard a man moving about on the roof above her. The chef also heard the man. A fcw'jnoments later thoy hoard the back cloor of the premises -being tried, but when they opened it they could find no sign of the prowler. Mrs. O'Beilly then notified the police, who made a thorough'search. Although nothing was seen of the man, a fairly new hat was found lying on the roof.
