TWO POUNDS A BITE
A plumber, of Lower Hutt, Frank Smith, was charged in tho Magistrate's Court at Pctone yesterday with being tho owner of an Alsatian dog which attacked Joyce Ellis, whereby her limbs were endangered. He did not appear, and was fined £2 by Mr. W. 11. Woodward, S.M.
According to the evidence of the girl, who was 13 years of age, she and her mother were walking along Manchester . reet, Petone, when the clog jumped up and bit her on the arm. The mother stated that the girl did not walk on the dog's tail.
Constable Tanner read a statement from tho defendant in which he said that the clog, which belonged to his wife, was lying on the footpath wheu the girl stepped on its tail, causing it to bite her. It was a very quiet dog and would have given no trouble had the girl kept clear of it. He offered to make good the damage to her clothes.
