EVANS BAY REGATTA
AFTERNOON'S EVENTS
FINE DAY'S SPORT
The decision of the Evaus Bay Motor Boat and Yacht Club to hold an all-dar regatta to mark the commencement of the new season brought results which must be considered highly satisfactory, as a splendid day's sport provided the right background for the official opening ceremony at the club house in the afternoon. The season was declared open by Mr. J. Paterson, a vice-president, who referred to the work that had been don« during the winter by club members in getting their craft ready, and than raised a laugh by hoping that the weather would always be favourable for yachts, .small boats, and motor boats, at the same timp. After tracing the history of the early vessels to visit Port Nicholson, Mr. Pateir son spoke of the progress shown by the Evans Bay Club. One of the most gratifying features, ho said,. was .the number of small boats, as they were the mean* of teaching boys the rudiments of seamanship. Other speakers were Messrs. K. Hardham, of the Royal Port Nicholson Yacht Club, G. Hook, of the Heretaunga Boating Club, and J. Moffatt, of the Wellington Provincial Yacht and Motor Boat Association. The visitors were then given afternoon tea in the club house to the accompaniment of orchestral selections. At a dance in the evening the prizes were presented to the successful contestants. CONCLUDING RESULTS. The results of the events decided ye?terday afternoon are given below. In the race for keelers, which was started, in the morning, but which did, not finish until the afternoon owing to the boat* becoming becalmed near the turning point at Point Jerningham, the Marangi won fairly easily from Romp.
