AMATEUR BILLIARDS
CHAMPIONSHIP PROGRESS
Two more games*, in the New Zealand amateur billiards championship were played at the Pederal Club rooms yesterday, and both attracted considerable interest. In the afternoon Freeman (R.S.A.) was defeated by his club-mate, Duncan, who ran to joints (666) when his opponent's score was 467. Freeman's best break was 42, but Duncan exceeded this with a 71, his other breaks including a 43 and a 40. Hackett, of Auckland/ who holds the championship title, had a stern struggle in the evening with Moses (P. and T. Pastimes). It was not until after the 500 mark ,had been passed that Hackett was able to forge his way ahead, Moses having done well up to that etage. Moses then fell away in his scoring efforts, but the game was still closely contested until Hackett ran to points when Moses had made 599. Hackett made breaks of 51, 43, and 40. Devine ' (Petone W.M.C.) and Petlcy ■(C.T.C.) are meeting this afternoon, and Shanks (Wellington W.M.C.) and Tucker (Federal) are to meet to-night.
