CANDIDATES CLASSIFIED
LONDON, 17th October. .For the election on 27th October a total of 1286 candidates have been nominated, compared with 1730 at the last election. There are 410 straight fights compared with 94 in 1929, when there wero 444 three-cornered contests which at present number 99, with 26 quadrangular contests, including Whitechapel, where two of the candidates are Labour men. Details of the nominations are:— Conservatives 517 Liberals under Sir John Simon 40 All other Liberals ■• 123 National Labour ............ 21 Now Party 23 Labour ..................... 514 Communists 25 Others 26 The' newspapers vary in regard to their classification, but the above summary is generally accepted. The first Australian to be elected is a Melbourne man, Mr. G. H. A. Wilson, who was unopposed for Cambridge University. . . • ■■ :
